Thought you might like an update on Operation Migration’s Class of 2012 whooping cranes. Their baby pictures, shown above, were taken the first week in May soon after hatching at the Patuxent facility in Maryland. They’ve grown so fast their own mother’s wouldn’t recognize them. On June 22, they were flown to White River Marsh in Green Lake County, Wisconsin to begin their flight training. On July 12, a team of veterinarians gave the chicks their health checks and vaccinations and fitted them with permanent US Fish and Wildlife ID bands. Looks like they will be airborne any day now.
