What Makes Stacey Wilbur Milligan Tick
I had the pleasure of meeting and visiting with Marilyn Meredith in person a couple of weeks ago at EPICON in Vancouver, Washington. Not only is she a talented writer, but a lovely person who provided me with some great promotional pointers. I’m pleased I can return the favor by hosting her today.
Welcome Marilyn.
Kathleen asked me to write about my heroine in the Rocky Bluff P.D. crime series, and Stacey comes closest to that description as she’s been in almost all of the books.
She began as Stacey Wilbur, a widowed single mom, who joined the Rocky Bluff P.D. to support herself and her son, Davey. As a small woman and most of the time, the only female on the RBPD, she had to win the respect of her fellow officers. What she lacks in stature, she makes up for in intelligence and being able to assess a situation and calm it down without using force. She’s brave and determined. Willing to put herself on the line, she’s taken on some difficult roles as a police officer.
For a while, she was determined to never date anyone who worked in the department. When Detective Milligan asked for her help in several cases, her determination began to crumble and a romance began which finally resulted in marriage.
Though Stacey tries to put her son first, her job often interferes—and causes her some guilty feelings. She loves being married to Doug, but the nature of their jobs doesn’t give them as much time together as they both would like.
Stacey has been through many scary trials: pretending to be something she isn’t, chasing bad guys of all sorts including pedophiles, nearly being killed by a murderer, searching desperately for Doug when he disappeared, being kidnapped and much more.
Right now, Stacey’s goals are to be a good mother and wife, and to always be the best at her job as a police officer. Though certainly not perfect, she works hard at doing all these things.
I’ve enjoyed getting to know Stacey and love writing about her.

F. M. Meredith’s Bio:
F.M. is also known as Marilyn Meredith, the author of the Deputy Tempe Crabtree series. She first became interested in writing about law enforcement when she lived in a neighborhood filled with police officers and their families. The interest was fanned when her daughter married a police officer and the tradition has continued with a grandson and grandson-in-law who are deputies. She’s also serves on the board of the Public Safety Writers Association, and has many friends in different law enforcement fields. For twenty plus years, she and her husband lived in a small beach community located in Southern California much like the fictional Rocky Bluff. She is a member of three chapters of Sisters in Crime, Epic, and Mystery Writers of America.

The character of Stacy Wilbur is so true to life, Marilyn, because being a good mother and wife, and trying to always be the best at your job are the goals of a lot of women. That's probably why she's so easy to relate to.

Kathleen, just an aside. I noticed that you've written the Agatha Christie Triviography and Quiz Book. Were you also a member of the Agatha Christie Society? Have you read her psychological romance novels?
Yes, I was and I've read all her books and short stories, including her romance novels written under the pen-name Mary Westmacott. Oh, and I love your first name. It also happens to be my middle name.
