Book It for Friday: Book Review: Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog

Two days ago, I had a craving for tuna casserole. You know, the kind with egg noodles, canned tuna, and mushroom soup. Then I woke up this morning and swore I could smell pineapple upside down cake even though I’m sure there was not a skillet anywhere near with that odd cake cooking on the stove top. I haven’t had either dish since I lived at home; too many years ago to mention.
I wondered why these ancient food hankerings had assaulted my memory, until I realized it was because of the book I’d just finished.
For years I had planned on reading a Lisa Scottoline mystery. Finally, a friend gave me Scottoline’s nonfiction book, Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog: The Amazing Adventures of an Ordinary Woman. It’s a collection of her column publications in The Philadelphia Inquirer. One of the columns was entitled “Movie Time,” in which she describes her craving for movie candy. From the moment I began reading her delightfully entertaining book, I was hooked into her voice, her sense of humor, her quirky outlook on life. Describing her passion for Raisinets, Goobers, Whoppers, and Jujubes had obviously awakened those old taste bubs of mine. And her ability to make the most of life’s bizarre encounters was contagious. Yesterday, I visited a lingerie shop where I was given one of the strangest sales pitches I’d ever heard. I’ll have to blog about it one day. The title would be “Starter Thong.”
So, if you’re looking for a book that will give you a humorous perspective on life and put you in a good mood, I highly recommend Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog.

I’m off to check out Scottoline’s other books. The list is long—hoorah!
