Besides being writers and contributors to the book, Bake, Love, Write: 105 Authors Share Dessert Recipes and Advice on Love and Writing, Sharleen Scott and I have another thing in common. We live in Washington State near one of the great produce valleys in the country. Skagit Valley is famous for growing berries: blueberries, strawberries; black berries; Marion berries, and raspberries. If you ever visit during the summer, you’ll see fresh berry stands all along the roadways and even in the small towns along the way. Walking through a community farmer’s market, will have your mouth watering over the scent of ripe fruit.
So, it made perfect sense to me when I learned that Sharleen’s recipe in the book was Berries and Cream Pie. Although berry season has long passed, I have Sharleen recipe and several containers of berries in my freezer, which will get me through until the summer.
Her recipe calls for fresh or frozen berries poured into a nine inch pie crust and topped with a mixture of sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, and half-and-half, and baked. Check out the dessert cookbook for recipe details and to read Sharleen’s seven steps to a lasting, loving relationship. Her writing advice is equally simple and wise: “Follow your heart, because only a book written from the heart will have a heart.”
Bake, Love, Write: 105 Authors Share Dessert Recipes and Advice on Relationships and Writing, is edited by Lois Winston. The book features mystery and romance writers sharing not only their favorite recipes for fabulous cakes, pies, cookies, candy, and more, they also share the best advice they’ve ever received on love and writing.

Now an Amazon bestselling cookbook!
Waving hello! I'm having a blast with this cookbook book and all the yummy recipes. It's been great fun working with all the authors in this book and getting to know everyone.
Thanks for stopping by, E. It was an honor and joy working with all 104 of you!
Hi Kathleen! I'm attempting to post as "anonymous" to see if it works. Thanks so much for featuring my recipe today.
You're most welcome, Sharleen. Your Berry and Cream pie is a hit with me!
Hello from the Yakima Valley! I've been experiencing technical difficulties this week and was unable to post. The internet has now decided I'm not a robot, so here I am. It's cool to find out a new online friend practically lives in your backyard and to discover it while visiting on a blog in the UK was even more fun. Though a mountain range separates us, Kathleen and I both live in two of Washington State's famous agricultural areas. For many years, there was a sign posted at the Yakima Airport saying, Welcome to Yakima, Fruit Bowl of the Nation" and we are that. With the development of hardier blueberry varieties, berry farms are are popping up here as well. My Blueberries and Cream pie can be made with any combination of berries, but blueberries do require a bit more baking time. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. 🙂
It's only 13 degrees here today. A perfect day to curl up with a good book and a warm piece of pie.
Happy New Year!
Hi Sharleen,
Your pie with my coffee this morning would be wonderful. Shall we also mentioned our lush vineyards that produce some of the best wine in the country?
Of course :-). Once the vintners figured out Washington's climate is comparable to the wine grape growing regions of France, we were on our way. I've been working on an idea for a novel set in our lower valley wine country. My writing schedule is full at the moment, but the characters are bugging me to have their story told.
Sounds like a great story like, Sharleen. Too bad we can't stick around for 500 years, imagine!
Thanks for the yummy recipes 😉
Thanks for stopping by, Nancy!
