Murder at the Luther Review
Murder at the Luther, the second book in the “hotel” mystery series by Kathleen Kaska proves that patience is a virtue. Unanswered questions from the first mystery, Murder at the Arlington, are answered . . . in a way.
Murder at the Luther unites old friends with a wonderful palette of fresh characters all gathered on the Texas Gulf Coast for the infamous New Year’s Eve Ball in Palacios, Texas. A bungling sheriff with a political agenda, his rebellious fashion-challenged wife, and a mysterious relative are all part of the equation of “who do you trust?”
The story begins with Sydney Lockhart’s latest suitor falling at her feet—literally. The heroine, from the get-go, becomes a fatal femme rather than a femme fatale, thwarting her every fantasy. The real mystery is whether Sydney will ever get the love of her life in the face of new murder accusations.
The charm of the Luther, is that Sydney and her circle of friends are not far from reach. As in real life, Kaska has figured out that as long as there are people, the plot never ends. Sometimes a hotel can be a public nuisance. And sometimes the guests are dead wrong. The only negative part of this book is that I’m left anxiously waiting for the next mystery, the next hotel, the next murder.
